What it helps kids practice
Writing gets easier when kids do not have to tackle everything at once.
- Pencil control and letter formation.Tracing paths, copying letters and writing familiar words gives little hands gentle practice.
- Vocabulary and spelling awareness.Short words, word banks and simple sound activities help connect spoken language with written words.
- Sentence building.Kids practice word order, capital letters, periods and choosing words that make sense together.
- Putting ideas into words.By the final pages, they are choosing their own ideas and turning them into a tiny story.
Ready, set… write!
A pencil, a printed page and a little room for ideas are all they need.
- Choose your paper size.Download the US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or A4 version that fits your home printer.
- Print at 100% or Actual Size.Choose Actual Size or 100% so the tracing paths, writing spaces and activity layout stay at their intended size.
- Pencil works best. There is plenty of writing, rewriting and trying again, so a pencil and eraser make a very good team.
- Color is optional.None of the writing activities depend on color, so the worksheets work perfectly well printed in black and white.
- Reprint the pages they enjoy. Some activities, especially the tracing, letters and short-word pages, can be useful more than once as confidence grows.
From “I don’t know what to write” to “One day…”
First a line. Then a word. Then a sentence. Then a story.
The activities give kids something to work with at every step: a path to trace, a word bank to choose from or a sentence starter to finish.
By the last page, those little supports have turned into their own ideas.
